There already exists a page called Keel (band) which has most, if not all of the information here. I am turning this into a redirect that points to the prior page. Keel was a heavy Metal music band in the 1980's.
Like Van Halen & Dokken before them. Or Bon Jovi, Winger & Slaughter to follow. Keel was named after a member of the band. In this case, after vocalist & guitarist Ron Keel.
Ron Keel started out in music alongside (then unknown) Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen. In the band Steeler. Former W.A.S.P. bassist Rik Fox, and drummer Mark Edwards. were the other 2 in the band.
They had only one album Steeler, released in 1983 on Shrapnel records before they broke up. After the break-up of Steeler Yngwie Malmsteen went on as a solo artist, while Ron Keel formed the band Keel.
The original line up was...Ron Keel vocals, Marc Ferrari - guitars, Bobby Marks - drums, (Then-future King Kobra guitarsir) David Michael Philips - guitars & Kenny Chaison - guitars.With the original 5 members they began recording their debut album Lay Down The Law. However, After just a couple weeks of recording it Phillips left to join King Kobra. He was replaced by Bryan Jay.
Lay Down The Law was released in the summer of 1984.
After it's release and following tour Bobby Marks left. He was replaced by Steve Riley. With the change made they started working with KISS Bassist Gene Simmons on their 2nd album.
It wasn't long though before Steve Riley left to join the already mentioned W.A.S.P. He'd be replaced by Dwain Miller. This would be the last band member change for several years. As... With the members Ron Keel, Marc Ferrari, Kenny Chaisson, Bryan Jay & Dwain Miller they recorded their 3 best known / most popular albums. 1985's The Right To Rock. 1986's The Final Frontier (Both Produced by KISS" Gene Simmons).
Followed by their 4th album... Keel (album), produced by (former / original Accept Guitarist) Michael Wagener. It was released on June 21, 1987. Also of possible interest to someone is that...
During the process of writing & recording demos for this album, guitarist Marc Ferrari wrote a song called Proud To Be Loud. which UNFORTUNATELY was never released by Keel until 1998's reunion (6th)album Keel VI : Back In Action. Proud To Be Loud was instead given to (Pre thrash) Pantera who recorded it for their 4th album Power Metal, which was released in late 1987.
Keel also released a half new studio songs & half live concert recorded songs album called Larger Than Live in 1989.
They Broke-up on 1989 / 1990. Ron Keel started another band called Fair Game (or sometimes listed as Ron Keel's Fair Game). But this band didn't amount to much either musically or in terms of success, so they quickly broke-up.
In the mid 90's Ron Keel (now Ronnie Lee Keel)started playin' country music? Luckily though for Keel fans Ron just as quickly gave that idea up too! Of course...UNFORTUNATELY there aren't as many Keel fans left any more now as there was in the 80's?
