I come from the mindset that the only stupid question is the one I don't ask.
In the Wavy Gravy article it is stated, the Hog Farm commune (I'm paraphrasing) came about due to Babbs hijacking 'Further' to Mexico, leaving the [other] Pranksters stranded. No explanation is given for Babbs' action. Looking through this page, I still see no motive. I think the answer, if there is one, is a key part of the story.
