Talk:Kugelhopf

I suggest that the name Kugelhopf be used as the title of the merged article. A redirect could be used for the word "Gugelhopf".

The reason I suggest Kugelhopf is the practical one that the German word Kugel means "ball" or "ball-shaped" which is the reason for the naming of the yeast bread this way. I do not believe the word "Gugel" translates to any English word. (Besides, the word "Gugel" looks like "Google"). Mfields1 01:10, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The terms should be merged, yet the redirect should go to "Gugelhupf" as it's the common German word of the cake. The German wikipedia entry for Gugelhupf lists different spelling variants for Gugelhupf - including the Gugelhopf/Kugelhupf. Additionally, the German "Gugelhupf" really does sound like "Google-hupf" with a soft "g" instead of a hard "k". "Gugel" seems to have come from writing down a slang pronunciation of "Kugel" (like "dat" instead of "that").
