Sourcing from Gilchrist's website and Amazon[edit]

Gilchrist is one of those artists whom people know but they don't know, i.e, his music is extremely familiar to people (legions) who watch the HBO series "The Wire." But apparently there is not very much actual reporting on him personally that is very up to date. His website does contain some info that is useful to this article, and I believe using it satisfied the Wikipedia critera for Self published sources.

"Self-published or questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves, especially in articles about themselves, without the requirement that they be published experts in the field, so long as the following criteria are met:

   The material is neither unduly self-serving nor an exceptional claim.
   It does not involve claims about third parties (such as people, organizations, or other entities).
   It does not involve claims about events not directly related to the subject.
   There is no reasonable doubt as to its authenticity.
   The article is not based primarily on such sources.

These requirements also apply to pages from social networking websites such as Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook."

This guys is not being "self-serving" by saying his music has been used on TV series, it is simply a fact. There is no reason to doubt the authenticity. This article was written without any reference to his website up until I made an edit yesterday adding it.

So, I believe we should be able to cite his website for up-to-date information.

As for one editor's claim that Amazon is not a reliable source for whether his music has been released, I fail to understand that either, so please enlighten me. Gilchrist's music has been licensed for the Amazon streaming service per the Amazon page, so it is quite obvious it has been "released" in the truest sense of the word.

I am also editing to include a Maryland State Council on the Arts bio of him.

Sorry, I didn't see this before making my last edit. See Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources/Perennial sources on Amazon; it's not policy/guidelines, but there are plenty of people who argue against using Amazon at all. Someone's website etc can be used, but that doesn't mean that a better (independent) source shouldn't be searched for in preference. Hence my removal of the Amazon sources and the 'better source' tag. EddieHugh (talk) 15:08, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
