Talk:Library automation system
Voyager ad
[edit]I'm at 68.204.216.89. I removed the Voyager ad from this article. Some people just have no shame. It would have been OK if other systems were also represented, but this was clearly a plug for Voyager and only for Voyager. News flash, there are a number of product suites in this market, not just one!
Suggested merge into Integrated library system
[edit]"Library automation system" is a synonym for "Integrated library system". The latter is a more modern term so I suggest merging this article into Integrated library system. Nurg 00:29, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Support. This article is fairly useless as is and it would make more sense to spend time developing the ILS article, since that's the contemporary terminology. Planetneutral 04:07, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
The merge is reasonable, the two terms are the same and the information contained in both articles should be retrieved from a single article. I have been actively involved in this field of software for the last several years and see need for the continuation of these two articles as separate entities.
- Strong Support The library industry recognizes the term "Integrated Library System" as the proper term, at least in the US. I believe some countries refer to this as a Library Management System. Either way, "Library Automation System" is nothing more than a laymans' term, and as such I don't believe it to be encyclopedic enough to bear more than a redirect to the proper article. I think that Integrated library system should also be linked to library catalog. I do think a list of systems would help people who may be searching for a new ILS/ or library system. I agree that "library automation system" is not really a correct term, though should be included as a searchable term where searchers are referred to the ILS definition. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.101.223.52 (talk) 00:06, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
I think this page should indeed dissapear. Integrated Library Sytem is the right term. Something that is going to dissappear by the way. It will be replaced by a loosely coupled set of Web Services that work together within a Service Oriented Architecture. --Peter van Boheemen 07:20, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
