Direct Sales != MLM

I am putting here this list of deleted companies to confirm that they are indeed not MLMs.

I don't know much of the others but I had the impression that DXN is an MLM? --Knverma 14:01, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Under Section 55 and 55.1 of the Canadian Competition Act, the World Financial Group business model, as well as its predecessor's (WMA), by its own compensation criteria does in fact classify as a "multi-level-marketing-plan" Caraski (talk) 21:02, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Ok - World Financial seems to be ok, ~~not~~now that you've found sufficient reference to call it MLM. Vector Marketing seems to be sleazy and direct selling, but I don't see anything about entry-level sales people getting comissions from people they recruit, so I don't know that they're actually MLM. Theres this: the 'multigenerational' [1], and recursive associate-recruiting based compensation [2] business model that WFG follows in Canada places it under classification as a "multi-level-marketing-plan" of business, as classified by the Canadian Competition Act, Section 55 and 55.1, [3]. However any reference to MLM keeps getting cleansed from the WFG page by what appear to be concerned parties, lots of circumstantial evidence for COI, but nothing specifically knock-out. Vector marketing was based on personal first hand information, so I assumed there was a source somewhere. Looking closely at Vector's own page however doesnt turn up anything that would lead one to classify it as such. I'll keep an eye open however. Cheers. Caraski (talk) 03:01, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

World Financial Group seems to have been removed from the list again. This is getting ridiculous. Here is another source, from the SEC, classifying it as a multi-level-marketing group: [4] Is there any way we can lock it to avoid these COI, fly-by-night deletions? Rgds. Caraski, I've been following your activities through WP regarding WFG. I have to point out your mistakes in your argument to hopefully point you in the direction of another company to slander.

1. You link WFG to an MLM list despite the attributes of MLM being compensation as a result of the recruiting process and an inherent inability to pass up the people who recruited you.

2. You also use SEC definitions to apply to WFG. This is incorrect. WFG abides by the rules laid out by each state's department of insurance. World Group Securities abides by SEC rules as they handle the securities side of the business. You cannot conduct business in securities through WFG without getting appointed by WGS. In analogy, you cannot use the rules or definitions of the food industry to overshadow the automotive industry.

In most of the edits and discussions behind the scenes, you have somehow singled out WFG as a culprit as some conspiracy to masquerade as a legitimate company when, in fact, they're out for world domination (or something else to such dramatic effect). Sarcasm aside, what are YOUR personal experiences with the company? Have you worked there? If so, for how long? Did you get licensed? Did you even attend any meetings or events? How can you say for sure that you understand what they do and how they work all from the outside? Message boards? Some obscure outdated filing in regards to its predecessor company? If an editor believes that a company should have an article, then they should work an article up, using reliable sources and proving the company is notable enough to be included in Wikipedia. Category vs this list

Previously a category didn't exist that covers MLM companies specifically. However, recently I took the effort to reorganize a lot of the direct sales and MLM categories. The current category Category:Multi-level marketing companies (and its 2 subcats) could indeed replace this article. Leef5 ^{TALK | CONTRIBS} 15:23, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

Every company that is listed here supported by footnote 13 only should be removed; footnote 13 is 20 years old and cannot be found at the link as displayed.
