Does discussion of home prices and crime belong on a page about the county's attractions? It would seem to me this page should deal with things like the Aquarium, the Children's Museum, and so forth. (Rednikki (talk) 18:09, 6 January 2009 (UTC))[reply]
Second, it is a well-established fact (stated in the lead paragraph of this article) that tourism is an important part of the economy in coastal Monterey County. Thus, tourism is a recognized draw to many of these locations, venues, parks, etc.
Third, those who may insist on using a more generic term such as "attractions" or "sites of interest" should note that (a) the list was assembled with an emphasis on those attractions or sites of interest that draw tourists.
"Tourist attraction" is not meant in any derogatory sense here. Tourism is how Monterey County's economy is fueled. Saying a place is of interest to tourists does not mean it is not of interest to locals, or that the label is exclusionary of locals. It is simply a descriptive term for places in Monterey County.
