M110A1 CSASS vs DMR[edit]

So, to try and make some sense of this mess (which was already confusing because the Army decided to continue to use the M110 designation for the new CSASS program--apparently to avoid having to start a new Program of Record), I did a fair bit of digging. As of right now, it seems that the M110A1 CSASS is dead and most of the funding for the CSASS went into buying M110A1 SDMRs. As a result, I think it's best to change the article's title to M110A1 Rifle for now. If it turns out that the CSASS based off the G28 will somehow still happen, we can split off the M110A1 SDMR into its own page and rename this page back to M110A1 CSASS. But I don't think that's likely since there's funding for M110 SASS PIP kits to upgrade the existing M110s for the Navy/Marines. The Air Force was supposedly going to get CSASS' but recent info shows them receiving SDMRs as well. And Army was the one to drop hints about the M110A2 SASS PIP back at AUSA 2021.

In all likelihood, the M110A1 will stay as just for the DMR and the semi-auto sniper will be upgraded M110 SASS' (aka M110A2). If/when there's confirmation of that, we can always rename this page M110A1 Squad Designated Marksman Rifle.Jasonkwe (talk) (contribs) 04:40, 19 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
