28Jun13 reword[edit]

Warth(98) shows an R in Oct 61 (p187) and in Oct 63 (pp191-192). Last B built on 28Apr66 (p204), this must be what macktrucks.com means by “replaced in 1966”? First ref “Corporate History: 1960-1969” changed back one page to just History, that way it can be used for different decades.Sammy D III (talk) 19:53, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

First, I’m pretty sure this is some kind of an “R”. Bad angle, but unless you can come up with a better one, I’m saying R.

First, and most obvious, difference is the mirror brackets. The right side would be longer with a brace going down. The left side is way too long, DM has only a simple loop with mirror inside. The mirror is right there, years of experience. Instead of the loop angling slightly to the rear, we pushed them so that they angled slightly forward, to keep the mirror out of the way. You can see the simple loop on the subway and plow picture.

The cab appears very narrow, they were, look at the subway pic. I seem to recall winding the right window down without leaving the seat.

The hood is pretty long for a DM. If it has a Mack engine, it’s a low-powered one, a 237, maybe 250. Aftercooled engines (I can explain) like a 300 have two tubes coming out of the air cleaner, one for intake, one for the intercooler. Might be a vendor engine, tho, silver dog. I guess that could go either way.

This looks like a tractor w/crane. Short wheelbase, only two outriggers, and truck this size would have a larger crane. Too much truck for the size of the boom. To me, this is clearly an “800”, but I don’t have a steel hood “600” to compare with. Still, I’m sure it’s an 800.

This could be an Illinois truck. No front plate (which we need here), but that tax stamp showing under the air cleaner looks good. We had portrait, with the shape of the state, different colors for different years. The background looks good, too, check the fences, houses, and snow. Not it “is”, but it “could be”.

It's my 42nd anniversary. Yea, personal, but I'm proud. Sammy D III (talk) 17:43, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
