Wasn't this the guy who was belittled to no end by Hardy in his Apology? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.22.152.92 (talk) 02:16, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hardy does mention him once on page 12 of his Apologia. He's considering some of the mathematicians that perhaps should not be remembered as well as they are: "Rolle figures in the textbooks of elementary calculus as if he had been a mathematician like Newton;" It is just a casual piece of invective that I shouldn't think rates inclusion in Rolle's bio, unless more has been made of it since. Portrait[edit]

. If "no portrait of him is known", where does the article picture come from? Especially Lime (talk) 08:34, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The portrait that's on the page currently looks a lot like Leibniz...--Knucmo2 (talk) 16:19, 8 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see this has now been changed to "no contemporary portrait..." which makes more sense. Especially Lime (talk) 17:07, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Multiple online sources concur that this is a portrait of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz - Eroica (talk) 08:20, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation of name[edit]

What are the original French and common English pronunciations of the name Rolle? (do we say 'roll' or 'rall?') OmneBonum (talk) 13:39, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
