Mini-series or Miniseries

I read miniseries as "miniss-er-ees" and wondered whether it was something you could catch in a brothel or an ancient tribe of pygmies? This is an awful neologism and there should be a hyphen! I have referred to both U.S. and U.K. references on this and both Websters (New International Dic. -1993) and Chambers (21st Cent. Dic. -2000) show mini-series. I also did a google search (which isn't always credible) and found 5m+ for min-series and just under 2.5m for miniseries.
