The mule is not the symbol of the Democratic Party. Rather, the donkey is. A mule is, of course, a hybrid between a male donkey and a female horse. I don't know what to do about this article. The assertion that the mule has something to do with the Democratic Party is uncited. Perhaps a more likley explanation is that it is somehow related to Truman's stubborn nature?
