This is a Roald Dahl story, but it is NOT a children's story. I have removed the reference to it being such.

the conclusion[edit]

Just a note -- the conclusion that I came to is that the husband himself pulled the switcheroo. Upon redeeming the ticket, he discovered that it belonged to the mink coat, and promptly gave it to his secretary (with whom he'd been having a fling), purchasing another, cheaper item for his wife. The double irony being that she got it originally by cheating on him, and that he believed that she'd be none the wiser if he showed up with a lesser item.
