"iron" boots?[edit]

I have seen several references to postilions wearing "leg irons" or something similar in history books and also in novels of the 1700s and 1800s, and the postilion entry here on Wikipedia has a picture of a pair of postilion boots which are metal, possibly iron? But with this in mind, it makes the likelihood of a postilion being struck by lighting a little more believable. Might be worth following up so as to give a possible explanation of the actual origin of the phrase. Zlama (talk) 07:52, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
