Issues

Both music references are from NYC rappers who are most likely referring specifically to Nantucket Nectar's drinks. Crack niggas like nantuckets i.e. crack open the bottle, and I'm pretty sure the Jadakiss line is "drink a Nantucket" not "drink on Nantucket." --

Is this map useful? Not only doesn't it orient us as to the island's position vis a vis the mainland, it has no towns located on it. -- Zoe

Article formerly stated that Surfside is the southernmost town in New England; it's not. Greenwich, Connecticut seems to be the southernmost town in New England, at 41 degrees, 2 minutes north latitude; Surfside, looking at the map in this entry, must be north of 41 degrees, 10 minutes. I changed this, although I wasn't logged in when I did it. -- Izzycat

There is no village of Surfside on Nantucket. Surfside is a beach. There is a village named Siasconset, locally referred to as Sconset which lies at the eastermost point of the island.

Changed the following sentence: "The village of Surfside on Nantucket is the southernmost settlement in Massachusetts." to read "The region of Surfside on Nantucket is the southernmost settlement in Massachusetts." - replacing village with region.

I'm a native of nantucket, and he is correct, there is no village in surfside, maybe a little shack or two, but no complete village. Eh, we don't even really have villages, we just have one central town region. Everything else is like the doldrums.

Well, I'd probably call Siasconset a village, although it certainly isn't one in the political sense. But it's a compact, fairly-densely populated enclave amid a lot of sparse eastern island.

Contradictory statements

"Nantucket is an island south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in the United States. Together with the small islands of Tuckernuck and Muskeget, it constitutes the town of Nantucket, Massachusetts and the coextensive Nantucket County."

"The National Park Service has designated the entire island as a National Historic District, paying particular note to the towns of Nantucket and Siaconset."

So, do Nantucket Island, Tuckernuck Island, and Muskeget Island make up the town of Nantucket? That entire area is one town? Then where is Siaconset, and is it indeed a separate town, or just a "neighborhood" or "region?"

Income levels

According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis (data at [1]), the per-capita personal income of Nantucket County (essentially co-terminous with the town and island) was $56,092, making it the eighteenth-wealthiest county in America. Erosion

It appears that the island of Nantucket will disappear in approximately 600 or so odd years due to the devastating effects attributed to the process of erosion. What a shame. Sigh. FitzColinGerald 06:06, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

I cannot believe there is no mention of "There once was a man from Nantucket...." That is why I came to this article. Whats the story with those stories/jokes/Limericks? History? Use? I was wondering. --Jon in California 27 September 2007

I propose to merge the content of Hummock pond into here, since the notability of that article has been questioned. In fact the article is unsourced and does not seem to have much potential for expansion. If the information is relevant, it should be merged here.

Agree to merge. It is similar to Coatue which was orphaned and I redirected to Nantucket and pasted its contents into a new Section or subsection. I know now I should have used the merge procedures but the redirect page still has all of its history. There may be other small articles that need to be considered for this also, since the main article deals with the island, town and county. clariosophic 20:08, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Smaller Islands?

When the article says, "Together with the small islands of Tuckernuck and Muskeget," should the small Esther Island be included, too? Here is a link to Google Maps, pointing out its location. As you can see, it's closer to the Island of Nantucket than both Tuckernuck and Muskeget.
