Does anyone else think intermeshing twin screw extruders deserve a mention in this article? Twin screws are responsible for a enormous amount of the materials made in the world and could not work without the fundamental principles of a non-circular gear.

Layman's explanation of the constraints of NCGs?[edit]

The math there is useful in answering this, I'm sure, but for most of us, what are the geometric constraints of NCGs? For example would the pointed bottom of a heart shape prevent its use in a fixed-axle gear set?
