Wineries in Oakville AVA[edit]

Some of these deserve their own articles:--Kharker 18:03, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree and it is a good call to move the list here. I should have done that. It would make sense to move them to the article list as they get created. The more that I think about it, its actually a really good idea to compose such a list on the talk pages of more of the AVA articles. It will keep the articles cleaner and can serve a benefit of highlighting some of the wineries (like Silver Oak and Screaming Eagle) that need an article. That someone has not chosen to write a Wiki article about a winery does not indicate it is unnotable. In fact, I know the owners of a definitely notable Napa winery, and they had not considered adding a Wiki article, and didn't understand under what circumstances they could contribute to the existing article. In any event, this article shouldn't be used for promotional purposes -- suggesting that some wineries are notable obviously implies that Wiki does not recommend some others. Well owners of any winery should never consider adding a Wiki article as that would be against our WP:COI policy. While I agree the fact that a winery doesn't have an article yet doesn't mean that it not notable enough to deserve one. However, there are certainly wineries of marginal notability that don't have articles because they are distinctly of marginal notability and no unbias, unconnected individual has been motivated yet to write an article on them. In contrast, wineries of very obvious notability with an abundance of reliable sources available are the low hanging fruit that usually get plucked first.
