The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Paraformaldehyde/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

In the section, Reactions, the article claims that paraformaldehyde can be depolymerized to formaldehyde solution by water in the presence of alkali or heat. The time over which this reaction occurs and the reaction conditions should be specified as well as the mechanism. There are innumerable articles in the biomedical literature which cite the use of freshly prepared paraformaldehyde as a fixative yet, to my knowledge, there is not a single shred of evidence to support the commonly held belief that paraformaldehyde undergoes the rapid depolymerisation that is necessary for such preparations to act as adequate fixatives i.e. to completely depolymerise to formaldehyde solution. Does anyone know of any articles that describe the depolymerisation of paraformaldehyde?.Jhomtaz (talk) 10:21, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
