Alternate Article on This Topic[edit]

A prior version of this article, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (2005), India, by User:Advjuvairianv was uprooted on 2 February 2014, and relocated to his personal space at User:Advjuvairianv/Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (2005), India, without a redirect, by User:Callanecc, citing duplication of topic. Then, after that version's deletion from Wikipedia, User:Advjuvairianv began editing or expanding this article on the topic.

As a reader, I found the original User:Advjuvairianv version to be much more readable, and far easier to quickly scan for essential information. Although it is no longer being kept up-to-date (as of 31 January 2014, the last edits before its deletion from Wikipedia), it extensively uses bullet-lists, which present the essential facts much more precisely and clearly. It still viewable in his personal space at: User:Advjuvairianv/Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (2005), India.

General Principles of Wikipedia Content[edit]

While there may be some difference of opinion as to whether bullet-lists or long-winded paragraphs are better, it seems important to remember that the primary function of Wikipedia is (as its name clearly implies) to serve as a quick-reference encyclopedia for the general public, and not as an textbook or academic journal for long-winded dissertations by (and for) academics and specialists.

While the latter function has merit, and may be an approved application of Wikipedia, it is not the primary role of Wikipedia, as I understand it. Wikipedia is mostly for quick, basic reference for the general public, right?

To that end, then, it seems that quick-reference elements (like bullet lists, data tables and graphs) should take priority over lengthy paragraphs of continuous text, or be strategically incorporated into them, for easily identifiable, clear summation of essential facts -- especially in important, complex topics such as this.
