Untitled[edit]

In Raymond Robinson's life, it is said that he was well liked by family and neighbors. My grandfather was a frequent visitor of Raymond during his night walks in the mid 40's, sometimes helping him along, most times delivering him cigars. My grandfather was only a boy, around the age of 8 or 9. He would purchase the cigars on few occasions, but more likely took them from his father's box under his fathers bed and snuck out of the house. He did in fact, in the middle of his walks, would retreat and relax by a closed bridge, especially when it would rain or bad weather arose. This is where my grandfather made most of his deliveries. I guess I have experienced a different legend of Raymond Robinson, "the green man", throughout my life. Gielsagin (talk) 04:22, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's one of the weaknesses of Wikipedia: if it's not written down, then it's unsourced or original research. I can understand why, but it's kind of sad, especially in bits of cultural history like this. The myths are much more likely to be published than the facts. At least one of the sources did say that he was well liked (I wrote the first version of this article, and I was worried about deletion for non-notability, so I was comically obsessive about sourcing everything). Unfortunately, several of the sources are newspaper articles that have turned into dead links since I found them... "On the FX show It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the character of Charlie Kelly takes great relish in dressing up in a full-body, face obscuring neon green spandex body suit to dance around and portray a character he calls Green Man. Charlie used to assume the identity of Green Man at high school football games, and became his school's unofficial mascot. At several points during the series, Charlie resurrects his variation on Green Man, much to the annoyance and protest of the rest of the Gang. As the show takes place in Pennsylvania, this is very likely an homage to the urban legend inspired by the real man. Support per nomination. The proposed parenthetical qualifier "(disfigured man)" is more intuitive than the proper name "(Green Man)". Oppose. The term disfigured is generally considered derogatory, although it is used by the sources. I prefer @BarrelProof's suggestion of Green Man (Pennsylvania) or Green Man (Pennsylvania urban legend) because it is what he's known for and uses more neutral language.
