Bloated lede section

The recent additions are ridiculous. Would appreciate having help paring these drive-by edits down. Vesuvius Dogg (talk) 15:32, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

Would anyone object to me adding a footnote to this first wife with something like "divorced in 1990, after her apparent disappearance in 1982". The reason is because while the divorce was granted in 1990, if she did die in 1982 it's questionable if you can still say he was married to her then, even if the marriage wasn't definitively dissolved until 1990. Nil Einne (talk) 07:33, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

It is not an "apparent disappearance." It is a real disappearance, and a court eventually ruled her as deceased. Also, from everything written in news source, the Dursts lived together as man and wife at the time of her disappearance. They had not separated nor filed for divorce. We need to follow the cited sources, obviously, but I believe he was living in a separate apartment at the time of Kathy's disappearance. Vesuvius Dogg (talk) 18:59, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
What you believe does not match multiple citations. According to reliable news sources, the couple had a house in Westchester County, New York, and an apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Durst told police he drove his wife from their Westchester house to the train station, so she could attend medical-school classes the next morning in NYC, and then talked to her after she arrived at their NYC apartment. But law enforcement has been quoted as saying they believe she was killed at their Westchester County home. Here's a source: [1] AuthorAuthor (talk) 19:58, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

Author Author - Before making these misguided edits and assertions, you should at least read the entire existing page. These issues have already been covered on the Durst page quite sometime ago.

The night Kathie disappeared both her and Durst were at the house in Westchester, but it was well known that he had another apartment and was living with Prudence Farrow (Mia's sister) for the three years prior - see 'Disappearance of Kathleen McCormack Durst'. Yes, they still had the other residences but he was not living there.

Farrow's friends say she actually called Kathie to tell her she wanted Durst all to her self - see the end of the 'Personal life' section and the references there. Just prior to her disappearance Kathie told Durst she wanted a divorce, which he refused. See the 'Disappearance of Kathleen McCormack Durst' and 'Personal life' sections. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:402:4300:57FF:2C7F:3312:3E0E:A219 (talk) 06:01, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

What is wrong with the editors here?

The federal handgun trial ALREADY took place on 2/3/16. Two sections were changed to reflect that, but no, someone has decided to remove the updated information and live in the past. The references were made the first time the updates were made, but are in the top section in any case. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:402:4300:57FF:2C7F:3312:3E0E:A219 (talk) 05:46, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Correction and additional relevant information

Robert Durst sent Susan Berman two $25,000 checks (not one), in the mail, in November and December 2000 just prior to her murder. Durst told her the checks were gifts. This was just after Durst learned in November 2000 from a reporter that he was under investigation (presumably in regards to the disappearance of his first wife Kathie Durst in 1982).

Not to be redundant, but Robert Durst met Susan Berman when both were students at UCLA in the mid to late 60's, after he graduated from Lehigh University in the spring of 1965 and moved to LA in the fall of 1965.

Although Galveston, TX Police found the torso, two arms and two legs, they never found the head of Morris Black, which prevented them from positively knowing the circumstances of Black's murder. Thus they could not prove Durst's guilt in murdering Black.

Also see the three additional sources in the 'Relationship to Susan Berman" section here in Talk.

I've tried to address these problems with accuracy—although the $50,000 figure has been widely reported, we don't yet have specific dates for both of those $25,000 checks sent by Durst to Berman in 2000. (And except for hearsay, we also don't know for sure if both checks to Berman were a gift; the Los Angeles Times called the $50,000 a loan.) To my knowledge, available case documents acknowledge only the November 2000 check.
I added a line about Morris Black's missing head (interestingly, Durst testified at trial he put it in a Walmart suitcase but later told Andrew Jarecki, in the DVD commentary for "All Good Things", that Black's head was placed in a plastic trash bag but he had "no idea" why it was not recovered from Galveston Bay).
Berman's own Wikipedia entry fills out the backstory of her friendship with Durst, including more details which might seem redundant if repeated here.
Thanks for suggesting these improvements. Vesuvius Dogg (talk) 16:02, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

4/25/15 - Due to the federal gun charges in Louisiana that Durst now faces, and the dropping of the state charges, he will be moved to a federal prison.

Regarding the info on how Durst & Berman met - since the Berman murder charge is a full paragraph in the very top section, a single line in the 'Death of Susan Berman' section referencing that they met at UCLA sometime between 1965 and 1969, hardly seems redundant. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2015‎ 68.60.66.69 (talk) 21:05, 25 April (UTC)

Thanks for that, but we need citations of reliable sources to include a statement that Durst has been or will be transferred to a federal prison in the article, or to mention that and when Durst and Berman met at UCLA. Huffington Post article on Durst being moved. Even though the Louisiana charges have been dropped, he'll still be in a state facility (can't find anything on why not federal facility, which was originally stated here - http://www.click2houston.com/news/robert-durst-to-be-moved-to-new-jail/32556476 ) but closer to New Orleans - 25 miles away as opposed to 70. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/04/27/robert-durst-moved_n_7156560.html

A judge believes Durst left a severed cat head on her doorstep - she's gone public with it, and the story is quoted in multiple sources. Can we get these pix under "Other cases" : "a witness sketch of Mitchell's presumed abductor resembles Durst..."? They're both from public records as they were released by sheriff and police, so should be public domain.
