A simple qualitative model internal energy statement[edit]

In the beginning of this section, it is stated that the internal energy of the rubber band is independent of length. This needs more explanation because it clearly contradicts the energy differential implied by the Helmholtz free energy present in the earlier section. It also seems very counter to physical intuition, that would say that there is a large increase in the potential energy stored in the molecular arrangement of the stretched rubber band, which presumably can occur without a commensurate decrease in the kinetic energy.
