I remember one time that Mel Gibson made public statements blaming Vatican II as being the cause of the sexual abuse crisis. I got the impression that he was saying that there was no abuse in the church before Vatican II, and I had pointed out in some other article in Wikipedia that the priest who married my grandparents, who were married here at St. Joseph's by Fr. Patanode, had been abusing kids long before Vatican II came about.
