Untitled[edit]

Statements about Gejdenson's parentage and education conflict with what I had heard and read, and with what is posted in US Congress and on his own website[1]. That says he was the first child of Holocaust survivors.

The current Wikipedia article states he is the child of an American soldier and army nurse, which if true would seem to make unlikely his being born in a displaced persons camp.

When first running for Congress, Sam Gedenson spoke very frequently all over the district (where I reside). He seemed personable and funny and was an excellent storyteller.

The biographical account I recall from over 25 years ago was that his parents were Russians who fled first to a Scandinavian country (I forget which one) and changed their name to Gejdenson to fit in there, and at the war's end went (or were sent) to Germany. When he first ran for Congress, in a primary campaign among five Democrats, some of the other candidates, who heard one another's speeches over and over, remarked that he often reinvented his family history. I suspect someone else invented the soldier and nurse story. Some documentation would be helpful.

His website says he received an associates degree from Mitchell College in 1968 and a BA from UConn in 1970. The current article says he received a BA from Mitchell College and entered UConn graduate school. Mitchell College did not give a bachelor's degree until 2000. [2].

Opposed by AIPAC?[edit]

The article claims without sourcing that he was targeted by AIPAC. In an otherwise reliable article, I'd be inclined to believe it. But given the other problems with the article noted above, it's also worth noting that the current Northeast Regional Director for AIPAC, Michael Sachs, was Gejdenson's Field Director.
