Public as default

[edit]

Regarding this edit: nearly all modern US community colleges are public. Much like non-profit status, this is not necessary to mention explicitly, except where it differs from the default. Nikkimaria (talk) 03:34, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. This encyclopedia has an international readership and community colleges are primarily an American phenomenon so making this explicit is helpful and necessary. ElKevbo (talk) 13:38, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The same argument could be made for non-profit vs for-profit status, which you have argued strongly against making explicit - what difference do you see? Nikkimaria (talk) 00:16, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Colleges and universities being non-profit is the global norm. The existence of community colleges and knowledge of them is not. ElKevbo (talk) 02:23, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have a citation for your first sentence? To my knowledge while that is true in the US, it's far less so elsewhere. As for knowledge of community colleges, the link to Community colleges in the United States fills that need where it exists, and mentions their typical governance in the first sentence. (In fact that knowledge seems much easier to obtain for someone that doesn't have it than profit status). Nikkimaria (talk) 03:21, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
