1952?[edit]

The release history of this series as listed in the article hasn't made any sense to me since I first read it. I finally decided to investigate, and here's some results (I'd appreciate some sanity checking, since I don't read a lick of Japanese):

The first releases listed, in 1952, are sourced to two Amazon.co.jp pages[1][2]
- According to these pages, the author is ショーロホフ ("Sholokhov"); however, according to ANN, Tatsuo Nitta's name in Kanji is 新田たつお (ANN's source lookup reveals that it gets its info from ja:新田たつお)
- These releases are listed as being in 1952, but according to ANN and the ja.WP page, Nitta wasn't even born until 1953
- The publisher of both releases is listed as 三笠書房 ("Mikasa Shobo"); however, Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha's name in kanji (according to its article) is 株式会社実業之日本社
The second listed releases (1955-1958) are also sourced to two Amazon.co.jp pages[3][4]
- The same problem with the author as the first release is also here
- The publisher this time is 角川書店 ("Kadokawa Shoten") - once again, obviously not the same as J-N
J-N's website itself says the first release was in 1989[5], which would fit nicely in with the author being born in the 50s

Yeah, those first two books are unrelated novels with the same title. The manga in question was first published in 1989; and it runs in Manga Sunday, not Shonen Sunday, so this is a seinen book. Doceirias (talk) 21:21, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't suppose you could provide any details of when it started serialization, could you? (and just to confirm, you were talking about the first two releases up there, and not just these two books, right?)

I snagged the first volume and it says that the first chapter ran in Weekly Manga Sunday on Nov 15, Shōwa 63, which would be 1988. - mako 08:36, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's interesting, ANN says it's been serialized since '89 ("The original manga has been running in Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha's Manga Sunday magazine since 1989..." (italics not mine)). Notability: Why is it notable ?
Number of volume: We have 6, 90 & 16 volumes editions how can it possible ?

Not really. It's one of those indicators of potential notability (similar to how insane length is an indicator rather than actual evidence/proof). It would seem to me that no series would run for 90+ volumes if it didn't attract the type of attention we look for in establishing notability, though. I see potential of notability evidences. It's old and yet available in print. It seems to spread around 90+ (200 pages) volumes meaning a minimum of sustained public support to be serialized that long. The thing is all of that are indirect evidences of notability. It's going to be tough if it goes to Afd which won't probably occur.

Does this works is reference on how Yakuza are covered in manga ? If yes & we have one RS saying so then we can sell the obscure yet notable work argument to potential Afd nominator. --KrebMarkt 17:14, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
