Merger Proposal[edit]

I suggest a merger with Bazooka, as they cover the same topic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:245:C101:6BCC:10CE:8238:7608:F50 (talk) 21:16, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Definitions[edit]

I personally think alot of this article is incorrect, for an example a SMAW, M72, and an AT4, are not shoulder launched missiles, they are rocket launchers, since they lack any form of guidance, to qualify them as missiles, I think the article should have its name changed. The AT4 is NOT rocketpropelled, it is a single use recoiless rifle. The whole article could use a rewrite.

True, but it should be remembered that "missile" is in the original sense simply a synonym for "projectile". An arrow is a missile too :o).--MWAK 07:42, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First shoulder-launched missile weapon[edit]

The article states that the Panzerfaust was the first shoulder-launched missile weapon but this is incorrect. The bazooka was deployed in November 1942 and production of the Panzerfaust didn't begin until the summer of 1943 [1]. I'd rewrite the section but I'm unsure about the trigger system on the bazooka.--Sus scrofa 11:46, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Commando Movie[edit]

Does somebody know which kind of Subj was shown in Commando? Or maybe it was a fictional weapon? 87.224.249.18 (talk) 11:41, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I already got it. That was M202A1 FLASH.87.224.249.18 (talk) 11:47, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Move[edit]

Why has this article been moved again, without any apparent discussion? The mover claims that the new title is the common name, but - aside from the fact that I've never heard the term - a quick google brings up 381,000 results for shoulder fired missile or 4,100,000 results for shoulder launched missile.Jellyfish dave (talk) 10:41, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Try the same search with Google scholar and Google books. Marcus Qwertyus 13:44, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Google Scholar and Google Books also seem to favour launched over fired, albeit by a much smaller margin. Jellyfish dave (talk) 17:48, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Either you didn't put the search term in quotes or the difference in our geographical location is altering the search results. I'm getting 1,140 results for "shoulder-fired missile]" and 405 results for "Shoulder-launched missile" on Google books. Marcus Qwertyus 18:15, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Move to a proper title[edit]

Missile is confusing and unformal. I propose we move the article to shoulder-fired weapon or similar. Blockhaj (talk) 07:29, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
