Image:Simon Dee - Doctor in Trouble.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. The Brighton College site, cited in this article, says Dodd was there 1951-1957 when he was 16-22 - seems unlikely.Sebmelmoth (talk) 16:23, 12 September 2009 (UTC) Brighton College has now amended this to 1951-52 but continues to give his birth as Ottawa so it is unlikely they have looked up their records, if they have any. Place of birth

The GRO Index is authoritative about names except when it comes to working out whether a particular name was used as a middle name (it will list only first name and one initial, I think). When Simon Dee / Nicholas Henty-Dodd placed an advert in The Times about the death of his father it read: "HENTY-DODD, CYRIL EDWIN P. — Born Salford, July 9, 1906, son of Cyril Dodd and Maud Henty; greatly loved father and much missed by your only son Nicholas. RIP Pop. 1 Kings 2.v.10." I think this makes it clear that his father was known by the hyphenated form at least by the time of his death in 1980, and probably earlier. There is no Cyril Henty-Dodd in the British Phone Books - Dee's father was Cyril Edwin Dodd - no Henty. There is no evidence that anyone before Dee used Henty-Dodd. I am checking with Brighton College what he was called there - almost certainly just Dodd. Sebmelmoth (talk) 18:53, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Date of Death

Many quoted refs (Daily Telegraph/Mail) http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/culture-obituaries/tv-radio-obituaries/6115121/Simon-Dee.html seems to use 30th as his date of death. A determined anon seems to think it was the 29th without any refs to support this. I've already reverted 3 times so perhaps we can decide on Dee's actual death date? --Egghead06 (talk) 10:37, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Lazy Journalists are notoriously innacurate! Why don't you believe the initial report of Simon Dee's death here [1] which appears to be from a more authoritative source? I suppose its too much to expect that Egghead06 will now apologise for making repeated incorrect edits based on lazy obits that were obviously just cribbed marginal re-works of this Wikipedia page, errors and all! Toilet seat face: Petula Clark or Marilyn Monroe?

It is unclear whether the change made by 81.155.199.162 (who seems to be an authoritative source) to replace Petula Clark by Marilyn Monroe in [3] and again in [4] is vandalism as asserted by User:Marshall46 [5] or a legitimate correction. The assertion that the face was Petula Clark[6] comes from Caitlin Moran's article "Simon agonises", The Times, 2 January 2004, but this article contains other factual errors such as asserting that Bill Cotton was Director General of the BBC, so is maybe not the most reliable source. The Telegraph Obituary says Marilyn Monroe, but this may have been cribbed from Wikipedia after the change made by 81.155.199.162 on 30 August, and contains errors such as the wrong date of death, so is another potentially unreliable source.

Is there a reliable source anywhere?

"Clark" was changed to "Monroe" by User 81.155.199.162 at 06:33 on 30 August. The online Telegraph obituary has a later dateline, 17:59, 30 August 2009, but it is more specific than Wikipedia and so is unlikely to have cribbed it. The Telegraph says that Dee "was in court again in 1974, admitting to having smashed a lavatory seat decorated with a picture of Marilyn Monroe in a Chelsea gift shop". As we have one press source for Petula Clarke and one for Marylin Monroe, I thought it best to remove the story entirely until we can find some corroboration. Richard Wiseman's excellent book "Whatever Happened to Simon Dee" notes that Dee was not actually born in Canada, and that this was merely one of many false pieces of information disseminated by the presenter himself, this one as a way of explaining the transatlantic accent he used for his Radio Caroline broadcasts. Wiseman, however, does not reveal whereabouts in England Dee was born, but does give further details about his family history and it's Lancastrian lineage. The book would be an excellent reference for improving this entry, as it is the only real text on Dee's career.

Lorna Mcdonald

The model Lorna Mcdonald link on the Lucie Clayton Charm Academy offers a wiki to Lorna Mcdonald and redirects to Simon Dee's wiki. This is problematic as an entire person is summarized on wikipedia through a sentence on someone elses page relating they were in a car with them at one point. I suggest fleshing out a page for Lorna Mcdonald, omitting the mention of her as it isn't very pertinent, or simply remove the link to Lorna as having her own wiki. My apologies if this is formatted incorrectly, I'm new
