This article and strainers appear to be about the same thing (both residential and industrial uses). I therefore suggest we merge the two articles. I think "strainers" is not a very good name, since there is no reason for it to be plural. In my opinion, therefore, the article should either be here, or at strainer. The latter is currently a redirect to sieve, which makes some sense, although perhaps strainer should instead be a disambiguation page, with links to sieve and to this article. Following this approach, I propose merging strainers into this article. Comments appreciated. --David Edgar (talk) 17:16, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Or perhaps strainer should redirect to sieve (disambiguation) which already links to stainless steel strainer? Either way, this page looks like the one to keep. --David Edgar (talk) 17:19, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hair catcher

Spanish names[edit]

For later use (when linking to a future Spanish article), I've found these Spanish names for the sink strainer:

  • Colador de drenaje

Stainless steel strainerSink strainer – "Stainless steel strainer" can refer to any type of cooking utensil in addition to the sink kind of strainer. Title is currently much too vague. "Sink strainer" is the technical term. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 16:54, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - I was waiting to see if maybe this was a regional term, because the device I've always thought of for the current name is the kind that sifts flour (simply "strainer" aka sieve), not a plumbing device at all. Likewise, the plumbing device doesn't necessarily have to be stainless steel, there are silicon and brass ones. I'm deferring to my local hardware chains that call the device described here: "sink strainer". Its quite possible that the Sink strainer#Large scale use section will be out-of-place under the new name and might have to be removed or merged elsewhere. -- Netoholic @ 09:29, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support on principle, although I seriously question whether the topic (under either name) meets WP:GNG. —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 09:51, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
