Musical structure[edit]

If somebody could explain the musical structure of "Sitting on Top of the World" it would enhance this article. Apparently the chordal structure is I-I7-IV-iv(or bVI)-I-V7-I-I(or V7). However, this would need to be explained in layman's terms if possible. I got the chordal structure details from Song Genealogy from "Sittin' On Top Of The World" Ikeshut 01:05, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Melody sounds to me like it comes from Jelly Roll Morton's "I Thought I Heard Buddy Bolden Say," it appears at 1:35 and again at the end of the song Mhults7791 (talk) 03:33, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sam Chatmon writer?[edit]

In this video shot by Alan Lomax, Sam claims he has written the song? He was a part of the Mississippi Sheiks too. How come he is not mentioned in the article? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuFEzckDQBs

There don't seem to be any "Sitting on Top of the World" released on records prior to the 1930 Mississippi Sheiks version. Additionally, several reliable sources list the writers as Walter Vinson and Lonnie Chatmon. Herzhaft writes "Shortly before his [Vinson's] death, thanks to the journalists of Living Blues magazine, he got the royalties he deserved for his help in composing 'Sitting on Top of the World'." [Encyclopedia of the Blues, pp. 250–251] Komara only mentions Sam Chatmon in the 1960s "revived" Sheiks in his essay for the Libray of Congress.[1] There needs to be be some corroboration to Sam's claim before he can be added to the article. —Ojorojo (talk) 22:38, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Big Bill Broozy?[edit]

I have searched for a cover version by Big Bill Broonzy mentioned in the third paragraph, but could not find anything and strongly suspect this was an error. Preservationist957 (talk) 23:31, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's is not under Broonzy's name, but with his Band Harum Scarums and was recorded for Paramount 13030-B [1] as the other titles of the group. It is out of print on rereleases for years, but it exists. Mortonharley (talk) 12:12, 17 June 2020 (UTC) [2] [3][reply]
