Merge?[edit]

Shouldn't this be merged with "Egg in the basket" ? Or the other way around? I've only heard this dish reffered to as Soldiers. If I use the Move function, will it still keep its "Soldiers (food)" as a heading with in the "Egg in the basket". —Preceding unsigned comment added by KSpittel (talk • contribs) 13:10, 13 April 2008

Soldiers / Shoulders[edit]

https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=0EACAAAAQAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=Soyer%27s+Shilling+Cookery+for+the+People&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjY1vXrmsbUAhUEwBQKHVwlACkQ6AEIJDAA#v=snippet&q=shoulders&f=false There's nothing I can see in the cited source to support the statement that "The name soldier actually derives from an abstraction from "shoulders" and refers to the classical way of serving the egg in the centre with the toast on either side, looking much like a head with shoulders.^[1] Over the years it became linked to the nursery rhyme "Humpty Dumpty."" or that "the earlier term "boiled egg with shoulders" appears in the 1855 cookbook Soyer's Shilling Cookery for the People." so I've removed it. I doubt 1966 is the earliest reference that could be found, but life's too short to go looking for an earlier one. Ghughesarch (talk) 01:17, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
