Disappearance / Statements of Concern[edit]

Following the disappearance of Sombath Somphone on 15 Dec 2012, statements of concern have been issued by a large number of individuals and organisations. It is not possible or necessary for this article to mention all of these statements, instead I suggest we limit ourselves to a few of the most prominent sources. Consequently I have removed the link to a statement by William Gomes and replaced this with references to statements made by Hillary Clinton and Amnesty International.APB-CMX (talk) 23:07, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In view of the continued media coverage of this case, and growing number of statements from international organisations, I have expanded the responses section. At the same time, I have removed references to the case of Kerry and Kay Danes which is unrelated to that of Sombath Somphone. I suggest The Centre for Public Policy Analysis should not try to use the Sombath Somphone article at Wikipeadia for propaganda purposes; I have left one link to the work of this organisation, which should be sufficient. Further edits should be directly related to the life of Sombath, his work and his disappearance, not the general human rights situation in Lao PDR. Disappearances of Thai in Laos 2017[edit]

Another story related possibly to this and at least Laos apathy toward Sombath is the story of Wuthipong Kachathamakul also known as Ko Tee, a Thai anti-junta activist who sought refuge in Laos after the start of the present military government in Thailand. This person was also picked up by several men and taken away never to be seen again. The Laos and Thai regimes show complete apathy to his disappearance. The two victims do share a connection in that they both were activists and disappeared in Laos and both governments show great apathy towards their plights.
