I'm putting this here with the intent of adding it to the main article once I'm able to properly source it, but there have been numerous books and websites over the years making the erroneous statement that this was an African-American musical group - I have seen this claim made to support the narrative that Bill Haley's Rock Around the Clock was a cover of a black original. I have a pretty good idea why this has happened - there were two songs recorded by the early 1950s by black artists Hal Singer and Wally Mercer also titled Rock Around the Clock, but neither were the DeKnight/Freedman composition (in fact the Singer song is closer to Blue Suede Shoes in some of its lyrics). There's also the fact that elements of Haley's arrangement were taken from his 1952 recording of Rock the Joint, which was a cover of a black original, but the elements borrowed for Clock were unique to Haley's version. Some of this information got combined into the story of Sonny Dae recording the song shortly before Haley did. Anyway, a proper source is needed before this is put into articlespace, but I'll leave it here as a note of interest for now. 70.73.90.119 (talk) 16:23, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Doing some reading on newspapers.com I saw references to Sonny Dae continuing to perform and in later life he operated a hotel. I don't have the source handy so can't add the info to the article yet. Just noting it here as an FYI. 136.159.160.121 (talk) 16:22, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
