Sport fishing is animal cruelty

[edit]

It is. So don't remove the link to PETA site. I would edit the article itself to include those opinions but you guys revert it anyway so at least let the link be. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 88.240.147.154 (talkcontribs) .

Actually, the content belongs in the article, not as an external link. Start by reviewing the guidelines outlined at Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. If you can add content that conforms with those guidelines (not this or this) and resist the urge to launch personal attacks against editors who remove POV-pushing content, then there is no reason that such content doesn't belong in Wikipedia. Who says Sport fishing is animal cruelty? PETA - Who were just found guilty of 14 felony counts of animal cruelty to some cute little puppies because they became God, Judge, and Executioner because THEY deemed the dogs ugly and unadoptable. Does the word hypocrit ring a bell?

I don't know much about peta and what they may have done.. it's the scientific facts that should be convincing.. the other link you removed http://www.animalliberation.org.au/fishrec.php from the article.. explains a lot.. so will you please come to your senses and think what you're doing to those creatures, just to satisfy your hunting instincts.. it's never too late to quit

If fishing was good enough for my hero Jesus then I'd say it is good enough for me. Sport fishing feeds a many hungry mouths that prefer not to eat grass and weeds for dinner. As for PETA, they are a backwards organization. "Got Beer" - do you even know about that evil marketing campaign? How about the other evil campaign that said "Little Johnny gave his right arm to feed a shark" That poor kid almost died for God sakes.

Comment by KJ: This is an ethical discussion. PETA has its own ideas and ethics but the fact is that sport fishing is not an illegal activity anywhere for the reasons PETA would like it to be. I see no need to link their emotional views to a sport fishing chapter. You'll find anti-attitudes against almost any topic in this world. Maybe these people and movements should have their own chapter under the heading 'ANTIS'?

Merge

[edit]

Although the original proposal was to merge this with Angling, it seems to make more sense to merge it in to Fishing, so that is what I will do. Angling is a method of fishing that can be used in sport, recreational or commercial fishing, but sport fishing is not a subset of angling. Arkyan • (talk) 21:05, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article is required for expansion. This is a popular activity. PianoKeys 23:43, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sport fishery

[edit]

The concept of sport fishery, versus sport fishing, might be worth discussing in this article. I'm sure there are some interesting subtleties in meaning. A sport fishery redirect could then be made and internal links created in qualifying articles. I noticed that there are two dozen hits in Wikipedia for "sport fishery", and several more for the variation "sports fishery". On Google, I found 71,000 hits for the "sport fishery", and 6,870 for "sports fishery". I found no definition at Dictionary.com for sport fishery, but the Wiki article on fishery contains an internal link here to sport fishing. Maybe someone who knows the terms could pull together a discussion in this article? --Pat (talk) 07:59, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
