Date of Composition[edit]

In the program notes linked to: "This quartet, which was composed in only a week, Oct 30 – Nov. 7, 1923...." In the article: "Leoš Janáček’s String Quartet No. 1, "Kreutzer Sonata", was written in a very short space of time, between 13 and 28 October 1923..." So, which is it? Has anyone noticed (and published) that the second movement of the quartet makes extensive use of a reference to the intervals of the beginning of the opening allegro of Beethoven's "Kreutzer" sonata? Not to mention that the closing section of the finale also quotes the main rhythm of the rondo theme of Beethoven's finale? A 2010 Guardian article by Euguene Drucker of the Emerson String Quartet says that their sleevenote writer Anthony Burton finds a canonic reference to Beethoven's variation theme in the sonata in the Janacek third movement. Could all these references also be present in the Danube Symphony?Delahays (talk) 12:34, 8 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
