Let me be the first to say that there are zero benefits to being a customer of both. Banknorth and Ameritrade are run separately. As far as I know Banknorth still has its own investment group - Bancnorth Investments. I agree that this page is confusing. I'm no dummy, but I can't get much relevant information about this company from this page. In particular, I came here because I was interested in finding an explanation of the relationship between TD Banknorth and TD Ameritrade, and I am curious if there is any integration between the companies (and thus any benefits for being a customer of both) or if they are two totally separate companies that happen to be owned by the same umbrella corporation and share a name, but nothing else. Neither the TD Ameritrade nor TD Banknorth websites shed any light on this. Cazort 21:43, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge discussion[edit]

I think its best to keep them separate for historic purposes. TD Bank is the result of a merger by two banks, not an acquisition and renaming by TD Banknorth. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 00:05, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Banknorth article covers it's existence before becoming TD Banknorth. It seems the Banknorth artice should be merged with the TD Bank article to maintain that consistency.TIinPA (talk) 03:22, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My two bits: While it's important to address history, for best reading/navigation, I would suggest the various TD/Bankborth/TD Banknorth/etc. page names should all lead to one merged page. That article should start off by describing the current entity, and should have a "History" section detailing the different ancestors. Name “Howard Bank”[edit]

Howard Bank is supposed to be an obsolete name used in pre-TDBanknorth day, according to this article. In actuality, there is a highly active Howard Bank in MAryland and adjacent states with $4 billion deposits. How or why did this happen? Did TD Banknorth license the name, or did the Maryland Bank pre-date the Burlington Bank and was therefore discarded when the Vermont Bank wanted to do business outside Vermont?
