Ancient Teqoa[edit]

  1. The ancient city is easily the primary topic, as all others are derived from it.
  2. Teqoa is now a common scholarly spelling. Added in lead.
  3. Tuqu' isn't Teqoa. It is near the khirba, not on top of/at the ruins. Similar to Tell Balatah/Sichem vs Nablus, City of David (archaeological site) vs Jerusalem, Tell Hisn vs Beisan and many, many other Levantine examples of the Bronze or Iron Age settlement moving down and even away from the original tell and not extending to it ever again, or only in much later times of unusual expansion. I have placed Tuqu' accordingly in the lead, not as identical with ancient Teqoa, but as the modern town inheriting the name and adjacent to its ruined remains.
