Date of First Issue?

[edit]

According to the infobox at upper left, the first issue of the magazine was published on August 16, 1954. However, elsewhere in the article it is claimed that the magazine has been published since 1965, and observed its 40th anniversary in 2005. Obviously these are inconsistent. Naming

[edit]

The magazine is actually called "Tennis", not "Tennis Magazine", so I propose changing this article's title to "Tennis (magazine)". This would be in line with the naming convention for other magazines such as Time (magazine), for example. Colonies Chris (talk) 15:50, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It seems from their website that the real name is "TENNIS Magazine"...Perhaps this is recent, but it is currently a redirect. I will propose it formally and give it a while... -- Mjquin_id (talk) 05:02, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The 'correct' title for a magazine article can be difficult to determine. For example, there was a discussion over at Time (magazine) a while back - someone proposed renaming the article to TIME, because that's what it says on the cover, but the consensus was that the capitalisation was just a bit of styling that didn't affect the fact that the magazine's name was really Time. The same may well be the case with Tennis. Why do you feel that the 'real' title should be TENNIS Magazine? Colonies Chris (talk) 20:11, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mostly the "About Us" page, which treats it consistently as if it were a "brand name". Also, press references: Like here; I figure if other trades in the realm of tennis magazines consistently use the uppercase, it must be a legality (like USTA); virtually all of the subscription houses use the uppercase. Most references to "Tennis magazine" are generic references, not specifically to "the" TENNIS magazine. Still trying to find articles of incorporation or something like that. -- Mjquin_id (talk) 02:11, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm...SEC "reference" to TENNIS, but not the actual bylaws. I would still think they would have to use a "legal" name...?
Judging by the magazine covers shown on the website, you could make a case that the article should be called 'TENNIS (magazine)', but perhaps not 'TENNIS Magazine'. But it does also depend on the legal name - for example, Time is published by Time, Inc., which is always mixed case, even though they refer to the magazine as TIME. Well, I cannot find "doodley-squat" for REAL references; but added references for various "business profile" sites; which consistently refer to "Tennis Magazine"; while at the same time referring to other magazines like VIBE specifically with uppercase. I have written them an email, but don't really know what to expect. In the meantime, I am going to stack up references here. -- Mjquin_id (talk) 04:17, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
