Mixup

[edit]

There seems to be a mix up in the article between two entirely different word usages.

One is തങ്ങൾ. This word is connected to a particular section of people of the Malabari Mappilla society. Traditionally there are certain restrictions placed upon on other Mappilla people from using such usages as Nee നീ, Inhi ഇഞ്ഞി, Avan അവൻ, Oanഓൻ, Aval അവള്, Oal ഓള് etc. upon them.

The other meaning of this word is something like their in Malayalam (തങ്ങളുടെ). This usage has no connection with Mappillas.

The mix up in the article is with regard to the higher form of You in the local feudal language Malayalam. That word is താങ്കൾ and not തങ്ങൾ. However, both words are spelt the same in English transliteration, usually, i.e. Thangal. But the താങ്കൾ word can be written as Thaangal.

I have removed the contentious texts which precipitated this mix up and has given additional references. --jojo@nthony (talk) 14:36, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
