Calling Grosvenor 'dictator' is like calling Socrates a dictator for attempting to teach others what he considered useful to their survival as a society. -- Anon

Well it's bit more than that. He moves beyond teaching and seizes control of his little society (the ship) in the end. Socrates never did that. It was the right thing to do but that doesn't mean that it wasn't dictatorial. -- Derek Ross | Talk 06:43, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Spacebeagle 01.jpg[edit]

Image:Spacebeagle 01.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

New Review in 2010[edit]

Should the following be referenced? There is a comprehensive review in the June 2010 issue of The New York Review of Science Fiction (Number 262 Vol. 22, No. 10) of The Voyage of the Space Beagle re-issued by Orb Books (New York) in July 2008 (Orb Books, July 2008 ISBN: 978-0-7653-2077-3, ISBN10: 0-7653-2077-0, ) http://us.macmillan.com/thevoyageofthespacebeagle The author Joe Milicia describes changes made by Van Vogt to the original Astounding stories for the novel, and also gives a comprehensive review from a contemporary perspective; reading this would likely profit anyone with an interest in the novel. Carey McCarthy (talk) 16:20, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds as if it would be worthwhile adding it as an External link then (assuming it's available online). -- Derek Ross | Talk 21:04, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Alas the NYRSF is not available online but back- (or single-) issues are available from its web site http://www.nyrsf.com/; the publication also has a entry in Wikipedia. NYRSF Only references to on-line review periodicals recommended ? What about if I wrote a brief outline of the ground covered in Joe Milicia's NYRSF review and then referenced it in References (rather than External link)? Carey McCarthy (talk) 09:46, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I had a quick look at its website and WP entry. Very interesting. Anyway, your suggested brief outline sounds like a good idea. If you could precis it as an example of a modern perspective on the novel, you could certainly cite it as a reference even though it is off line. -- Derek Ross | Talk 05:08, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
