Collar/Tie Bars[edit]

What aboout those bars you wear on your collar to hold the tie 'up' (so it doesn't slide down and show your top button, making you look like an arse). A different function to stopping it flapping around, but still metal tie accoutriments. I'm talking about the bars you slot under your tie, through holes made in the tips of your collar. Usually a bar with two bead/balls at either end, one/both of which unscrew. Steve McQueen rocks them heavily in the OG Thomas Crown affiar. And the 'pin' type ones, which don't need special collars, as worn by Richard Pryor, in that film where he suddenly gets really rich, and runs for Mayor (or something like that). Like a big fancy safety pin knob. Why am I such a prat?

Tie Clip History?[edit]

Dont you think we need some history of the tie clip?

e.g who invented it?, when was it invented?

I have heard that the tie clip was invented because of Victorian factory workers, the story goes like this, in Lancashire cotton mills some workers were injured or killed because their ties got trapped in the looms, then some bright spark had the idea that something that held your tie to your shirt would stop these accidents. I'm not sure if this an urban myth or not so could someone have a look round t'interweb for some evidence to back up this story?-GeorgeFormby1—Preceding unsigned comment added by GeorgeFormby1 (talkcontribs)

Yes ill have a look round the internet! Good work! Dep. Garcia ( Talk + | Help Desk | Complaints ) 18:36, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The inclusion of the TIEALIGN seems to be thinly veiled advertisement and not very informational. Especially since it claims that tie clips damage neckties, which is a claim I've never heard before nor experienced for myself. Thoughts?

I think tie pins/clips will have been around as long as people wore fabric round thier necks in the cold. (Brendan)

Plea for discussion[edit]

Something seems to be going on here. I'm not sure if it's an edit war or not, but I would like to ask the IP user or users and User:PavelChekov01 to use this page to discuss before things get any uglier. Thank you, Fliponymous (talk) 21:40, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
