Felix, Christmas Edition?[edit]

Is there a story behind the change in the insignia from Felix carrying a bomb to carrying (presumably) a bomb inside a gift box and wearing a Santa hat? When did this occur, was it a temporary change, and was it for all aircraft in VFA-31? Was it just goofy Christmas antics by maintenance personnel? F8F?[edit]

So apparently VF-31 flew the F8F Bearcat for a few years, even though it's not mentioned in the article. Picture: https://i.imgur.com/utn0uPk.jpg

As the pic was taken in 1946, they were still designated VF-3 then. No idea for how long they flew the F8F, though probably not too long.

Edit - actually the F8F is mentioned in one of the sources: https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/agency/navy/vf-31.htm

I took the liberty to add the F8F to the list of flown aircrafts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blackberu (talkcontribs) 12:00, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
