Wallpaper is satiracle[edit]

"He gained popularity due to his exaggerated use of Auto-Tune and minimal electronic music while satirizing the lack of feeling in mainstream pop" Really? Are you entirely sure? I've enjoyed his songs, but the way the music is produced and written, it begs Poe's Law as to whether it's satirical or if it's more of a last ditch defense - "Dang, this pop thing isn't working out how I thought it would, I know, let's claim parody!" 210.55.212.130 (talk) 05:14, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

When they first started out it was satirical, but has turned into seriousness also. I can't remember where I read it, but Ricky Reed stated that it stopped becoming satirical and has now turned into a legitimate thing. Contactman7 (talk) 17:58, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Reed has stated unequivocally in several interviews that Wallpaper.'s lyrics are meant to be satire, and while it's totally possible that he's lying, I don't think it's Wikipedia's place to dispute/theorize about a creator's intentions. I reworded the beginning of the article to state that the band is known for their lyrics, and that Reed has called them satire. Hopefully that's a sufficiently neutral way of addressing it. Eric Frederic vs. Ricky Reed[edit]

Eric Frederic goes by Ricky Reed pretty much 100% of the time now, at least professionally, but for much of Wallpaper.'s history Reed was a fully separate character from Frederic and the distinction was more important. Because I've addressed this in the History section, the article now refers to him as "Frederic" throughout, rather than "Reed," to avoid confusion. Frederic is still his legal name, so I don't believe this is a problem at all, but I figured I'd acknowledge it here in case anyone else has any thoughts. Wallpaper (band) vs. Wallpaper (musician)[edit]

While Wallpaper did begin as a solo project, fully half of its existence was spent as a group with two to five members. I understand the argument for renaming this page to Wallpaper (musician), but I argue that Wallpaper (band) is a better representation, seeing as the group lineup was responsible for Wallpaper’s highest-charting releases and highest-profile live appearances.
