Unsourced parts - consonants[edit]

  • Before /s/, a sequence of any monophthong/diphthong and /n/ is realized as a nasalized vowel
  • Before /s/, a sequence of a short monophthong and /n/ is realized as a long nasalized vowel
  • When assimilated, /n/ becomes [m] before labials, [ŋ] before velars, or is dropped while nasalising the preceding vowel

I'll re-introduce them to the article ASAP. I need space to clean up the section. Peter238 (talk) 15:17, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

An apparent contradiction[edit]

In the vowel section, citing Booij, it is argued that there are no rising diphthongs and that these are in fact consonant-vowel sequences beginning with /w/ and /j/. However, the consonant /w/ is missing from the consonant section. It cannot be an allophone of /v/, because there is a contrast between /oːvə/ in belove "promise" and /oːwə/ in bliuwe "stay". This seems like an apparent contradiction; either this labial element is a consonant, or it isn't. If it is, it should be listed with the other consonants. If it isn't, we shouldn't be arguing and citing sources claiming that it is. Rua (mew) 21:22, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
