Question: why use template instead of directly typing the character?[edit]

Nowrap construction[edit]

I note that the {{USD}} template emits non-wrapping HTML, namely:

{{USD|10.0 billion}} → <span style="white-space: nowrap">US$10.0 billion</span>
{{euro|10.0 billion}} → €10.0 billion
