Add the template[edit]

List of video game consoles - there's every console this template needs to be on. -- gakon5 [[User_talk:gakon5|(talk)]]

When did we ever agree on "Life span"? How do you measure that? I'm going to change this back to first available, per my original creation. K1Bond007 22:17, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I renamed the template, added optional lines (logos may be hard to find or nonexistant, most systems don't have an online service, and topgame for systems unreleased - or unknown). Also, please add proper links and "text" to the fields. For instance on "Type", use Video game console or Handheld game system - not "Standard" or for another field "None" - especially when that field is now optional. K1Bond007 23:06, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Can we add controller ports, or controller style as optional. Controller style would be "gamepad, dual analog controller, or joystick, or paddle? BTW its AWESOME that we're doing this :) --Larsinio 23:15, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Other fields i was thinking up. Hardware clones. Emulated: yes/no --Larsinio 23:21, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
A yes/no field is probably not the best idea for an infobox. Of your suggestions, only #controller ports would really be something to look into (IMHO of course). K1Bond007 03:10, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Im gonna add #controller/device ports to it. Larsinio 22:35, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Release date[edit]

Shouldn't it say "Release date" rather than "First available" so we can then have a list of dates for other regions in it. People will know when it was first released because the date will be whatever region it was released in first. --Thorpe 21:29, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't put this initially because I didn't want a huge list to accumulate in the infobox. See Xbox 360#Dates for example. All of that would then be put in the infobox. I think all that matters is the year in which it was first released, so I settled for "First available" — the rest would be better covered in the article itself, IMHO. unitssold[edit]

I've added the optional field "unitssold", for the total number of system units sold world wide. Shawnc 18:47, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Predecessor & Successor fields added[edit]

I have just added the optional fields "predecessor" and "successor". —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mvent2 (talkcontribs) .

Image caption[edit]

The template is missing an image caption, sometimes necessary when the image is slightly different from the model. If nobody complains, I will be adding it later. -- ReyBrujo 15:30, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you still will do this. I need it for some image tagging. —Chowbok 19:13, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

compatibility[edit]

I've added a field for compatibility with other platforms. Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 05:45, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There's been confusion on some articles on how to define compatibility. Some editors have tried mentioning emulation under the compatibility argument, only to get their edits quickly reverted by others insisting that the parameter is for hardware and media (i.e. original game disc or cartridge) compatibility. Is there room for an emulation argument, and would it be useful in this fashion? Or would it even be worth mentioning at all? --Stratadrake 03:32, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

redesign[edit]

{{Infobox CVG system
|title =
|logo =
|image =
|manufacturer =
|type =
|generation =
|lifespan =
|CPU =
|media =
|storage =
|controllers =
|connectivity =
|online service =
|release date =
|units sold =
|top game =
|compatibility =
|predecessor =
|successor =
}}

I'm proposing a minor redesign here.

New parameters:

  • connectivity: how the console connects to other systems: direct link, infrared, wi-fi, ethernet, modem
  • storage: how data is stored by the system: memory card, cartridge save

Done. Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 04:21, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Can't there be a section for price. Optional inclusion obviously mainly for current technology. SenorKristobbal 14:20, 5 August 2007 (UTC). Also I added --> to the code so the storage section will work. SenorKristobbal 14:38, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
