This template was considered for deletion on 2023 August 29. The result of the discussion was "'Keep'".

Outdated?

The figure in the latest WG seems to be really outdated. The figures seems to be like from the 1990 or 1980 census and almost 2/3 less than the latest 2010 official statistics. I think we ought to use official stats as it is more reliable. ќמшמφטтгמ^torque 02:55, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ok I will update it using the census. There are actually 2 ways to use the census - district population or local govt area population. I was thinking of using the district population for this template. Although LGA would seem more accurate to describe the pop. of a city, some cities have more than 1 LGAs (eg Kuching). I have compiled the list in List of cities and towns in Malaysia by population based on the 2010 census. Any ideas welcomed. ќמшמφטтгמ^torque 07:15, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

By district is probably better. Both would be political divisions, but a district is probably more likely to encapsulate a city, and I doubt rural areas will make that much of a difference. If you have a really good idea for mixing and matching, that'd be good, but it'd have to be very good to overcome OR/Synth issues that may arise. CMD (talk) 08:06, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok thanks for your thoughts, CMD. I have updated using data by districts except for those problematic districts in Selangor surrounding KL (Klang Valley). Districts such as Petaling and Hulu Langat are vague and contains several towns/cities in them; eg Petaling District has Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Subang Jaya. So on the list, only Kajang, Klang, Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya are based on LGA. ќמшמφטтгמ^torque 09:17, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
