History

TSO has a 200-year legacy of publishing excellence. TSO was created in 1996 when the publishing arm of His Majesty's Stationery Office was privatised.[1] and in 2006 TSO became part of the Williams Lea family. In 2010, TSO developed legislation.gov.uk with The National Archives, providing full access to newly enacted legislation for the UK, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as well as 743 years of legislation back to 1267 as open data. www.legislation.gov.uk, was one of the first government websites to fully meet the linked data principles advocated by the Public Sector Transparency Board, and was the first site of its kind in the world, transforming public and professional access to legislation data.[2] In 2013, this expertise in data transformation and open data allowed TSO to work with The National Archives again to digitally publish all Gazettes notices dating back to 1662. In 2014, TSO also began working with the local government sector, beginning with the redevelopment of the Croydon Council internal and external websites.

In recent years, TSO has celebrated the millionth download of The DVSA official Theory Test Kit App on the Apple store. In 2022, TSO provided sales and marketing support to DVSA to ensure that the updated Highway Code was the No.1 bestselling book on Amazon.co.uk. In September 2022, TSO published the official notification of HM Queen Elizabeth II demise in the UK's official journal of record.
