Heather Vogel Frederick (born January 3) is an American author of children’s books and young adult novels. She is most known for her Spy Mice series and Mother-Daughter Book Club series. Her books span various genres including historical fiction, contemporary fiction, adventure, and picture books.

Early Life and Career[edit]

Born in Peterborough, New Hampshire, Heather was the oldest of three children (younger sisters Lisa and Stefanie). Despite being born on January 3, she was considered the official New Years baby in the small town. Her father was an elementary school teacher and principle.[1] Heather loved writing as a child and wrote her first story in second grade called The Clever Giants and her first unpublished novel at camp when she was 12 years old. She and her sisters would often write scripts and put on shows for their family and friends. After she turned 11, her family moved to England for a few years. There, she lived in a 400-year-old stone cottage on the edge of the Charnwood Forrest. The stay in England inspired the setting for the fourth book of her Mother-Daughter Book Club series, Pies and Prejudice. She graduated from Hanover High School in Hanover, New Hampshire, and later went to Principia College, majoring in English Literature and German.[2] She also spent a year abroad at the University of Cologne in Germany. After 20 years as journalist, she decided to fulfill her childhood dream of writing for children. Her first book The Voyage of Patience Goodspeed was published in 2002. She currently lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband, two sons, and two Shetland sheepdogs Bonnie and Billie.
