Art wa sane really means the art of 'Sane' in a local Ugandan language, Luganda.

SANE is the art name of prominent Ugandan artist Eria Solomon Nsubuga.

Nsubuga was born 17th January 1979 in Central Uganda to Uganda parents of different but similar Bantu tribes: a Ganda father and Kiga Mother. He married in 2011, a wife from a Northern Uganda Luo language group the Acholi.

His personal growing up experiences and struggles to fit into a society that discourages inter tribal appreciation and call each other berating names, have made him a de-facto advocate, through his art for unity among tribes in his own country Uganda. He also seeks a greater level of discovery, appreciation, understanding, and celebration among and between the diverse language and ethnic groups on the continent of Africa. Sane realises that African 'tribes' are hardly homogeneous and because of this, do not see them each other other as partners in the race to the future, but as obstacles. This is why we have all these fueled conflicts on the continent between brothers along tribal and religious lines. Sane longs to see true true African unity.

Sane is mostly a painter, sculptor and teacher.He went to Makerere University's art school, The Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Art in 1998 and got a first class degree in Industrial and Fine Arts. He also attained a Master of Art in Fine Art (Sculpture) in the same institution in 2008. He currents practices art privately under the studio name; Pelepele Art Studio, and also teaches Sculpture and Painting part time at Nkumba University's Art School; the School of Commercial/ Industrial Art and Design. In 2011, he was offered a teaching position at Uganda Christian University as a lecturer in Painting and Sculpture.

Sane belongs to two distinct art movements: 'Immagine Poesias' and 'Index Mashariki', the latter being an African form of 'naive' expression that ignores Western colonial methods of art practice and philosophy. Some of the other members in this think tank are Henry Mujunga, Ronex Ahimbisibwe, and Enoch Mukiibi. Index Mashariki instead want to use their art for advocacy against the rape of Africa's identity and heritage by colonialism, and globalization. Immagine Poesia is a more global oriented group of Artists seeking to fuse different forms of artistic expression, like poetry (spoken art) and visual art.
